Contrived Chapter Four...

I'm having a bit of trouble right now getting chapter four of La Femme de Pirouette done. Every word I put down seems too... contrived, I guess I could say. So forced - it doesn't flow whatsoever. And I've had to scrap about three pages due to lack of well-written dialogue.
All I have at the moment is this small introduction paragraph. I had intended to wait a chapter or two more, develop a bit more plot, before I actually got to the scenes that would require even more detail (for which the story is rated R, M, Nc-17, whatever you wish to call it).
The Opera was busy during the day, a cacophony of gentle steps, loud scales sung in high, rich voices, which entwined themselves in between the candle light which cast small bouts of light over the sunlight that dared to sneak through the angel sculptures adorning large windows.
I definitely need to work some more on that... besides, I've been putting myself up for lots of pressure right now. After reading Certainty by Madeleine Thien (an amazing book), I've been(unknowingly, until someone pointed it out) writing more like her - or at least trying to.
Back to my ever faithful Microsoft Word.
